QSLs may be exchanged (usually by mail) to confirm a contact between radio amateurs. Shortwave listeners (SWLs) may also send a QSL to report reception of an amateur station. QSLs are often used as evidence of contacts for operating awards such as DXCC (worked 100+ countries).
